Poet Lore Features

Editors Judy Bolz and E. Ethelbert Miller have continued the 129-year legacy of Poet Lore by highlighting the best new poetry over the decades and introducing new ways for readers to experience the “news from the interior”. Unlike most journals, Poet Lore welcomes long poems and sequences. It publishes portfolios of work by individual poets within its “Poets Introducing Poets” and “World Poets in Translation” features. Bolz and Miller draw upon their skills as poets to arrange each issue in a narrative arc. In this way, Poet Lore invites cover-to-cover reading, bringing diverse poems into conversation with one another.

World Poets in Translation

Our World Poets in Translation feature highlights translated work by another poet. Poet Lore has always championed portfolios of translation that introduce our readers to exciting poets from around the world.

Poets Introducing Poets

In Poets Introducing Poets, editors Bolz and Miller wanted to utilize the discerning ears/eyes of Poet Lore’s contributing editors (Cornelius Eady, Tony Hoagland, David Lehman, Alberto Ríos, Jane Shore, David Wagoner, and Michele Wolf) in the selection and curation of poems for the magazine. These established poets present work by writers they admire whose poems has never appeared in the magazine. In 2010, Bolz and Miller began expanding the series to include well-known poets from a variety of geographical and cultural constituencies, further enlarging the community they both created and actively participate in.
